Phin mentioned Wahoo were avoiding wire rigs. I’ve caught them on straight 100lb fluorocarbon but also been cut off too.
That got me thinking of trying this rig. Anyone ever tried to sneak a few inches of wire or cable in the rig? May not be 100% Wahoo proof but would help.
I’ve caught plenty of tuna on 80 lb wire, just saying. If you wanted to add a wire trace I would albright it instead of using a swivel. I feel like the extra hardware kind of defeats the purpose.
Caught 4 last Friday. 2 on wire, 2 on mono. Biggest fish came on wire. I would stick with an 80-100lb spro swivel, not albright. If you’re circling a fish with an albright knot you can work the hook out. A swivel, well, swivels.
Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don’t tell them where they know the fish.
I use this as my toothy/unknown species rig. It is 12" of #9 wire with 130lb swivel and mono (could use 80lb mono). This was newly rigged this spring and only fish have bent the wire… I need to completely redo it. A very efective rig for us in many colors and types of lures. We always add a hoo… no meat equals no meat…
