Looking to put together some people to enter the Hilton Head Harbor wahoo tournament. If your interested please contact Welsh Carson @ 843.296.6285 or send me a private message with your number and I will contact you directly. Thanks
Since no one will ask the million dollar question I will…
How much ya asking for this deal???
“Wow! Your daughter is just as good as your wife!!”
“Lets pull the Venezuelan Bubbler!”
“Queen Anne’s Revenge”

The way we do it we all throw down for expenses…entree fee is 400 and there are two different Calcuttas for Mahi and tuna, each 250 and then cover fuel and bait. And then hopefully if we pull off the win…splitting 10k plus the winning on the Calcuttas(hopefully) then the wife’s and girlfriends can’t complain about coming home after a day of fishin…let me know if you or anyone wants in, I’d love to make a name for myself and this tournament would be a good start!
Read the rules again, Entry is $400, Tuna Calcutta $100, Dolphin Calcutta $100, Two fish Aggregate $100, can only win one prize. What kind of boat are you proposing to use? What do you expect gas, bait, ice food to cost?

Hey sorry about that I type fast sometimes and my proof reading before I hit the reply button is “off”…Thinking of taking the 35’ welcraft with trip 300’s because of the run time for getting offshore, my blackfin is a slower ride. we hold 300gal, i get my ice for free and a few packs of ballyhoo should do the trick, maybe catch some live baits the day of around the buoys…
If your fishing the wahoo tournament I would skip on the live bait. Take more than a few packs of ballyhoo and also rig some dredged split tail mullet. I would also get some high speed trolling lures. What plainer setup are you running? You really have to be on top of things if your going to spend the money for an entry fee or convince others to chip in.
Right on, thanks for the tip. I usually put two of those big yozuri wobblers on the 80’s short behind the boat in the wash. when were high speed trolling. usually on the riggers ill run some smoker headed baits way out. and a few different lure/bait combinations for the other rods. You dont think any live bait? i always keep something live on the boat, sometimes my patients get me and then find myself changing baits every 20 min. gotta outsmart those tricky fins
On the prize structure, you can only win one place in the tournament, but you can win all the callcuttas.
The calcuttas are optional.
The rule on winning the calcutta is:
You can only use a fish one time, so your big dolphin calcutta fish can not be used for your agrrigate you have to have another, same with tuna. It still allows you to win all but it also helps spread the money as well.
You can email me wahooshootout@aol.com for more questions and details.
With live bait you would have to troll way to slow to keep them alive. If you troll at even the minimum speed for wahoo you will kill them and defeat the purpose of live bait. I guess you could drift and just drop them down in the water column but I dont think thats your most productive option or even second or third option for that matter. Its also a little hard to get a live bait to stay alive or swim right when rigged with wire, at least the wire size you will need to catch the winner. Plus you wcould spend valuable tournament fishing time looking for bait and catching it. If I were you I would get a guy that specializes in wahoo fishing and let him go along for free. When I fish for a new specie thats what I do and learn a ton!
