Well, finally convinced the ole fiance to move to Charleston and lets say I am more than thrilled about this.
Can anyone lend a hand on some good walk-able flats locations for some tailing reds or perhaps even some good wading areas?
I know folks don’t really tend to give their locations up but any help for this South Carolina boy finally getting back to SC and out of the CF that is Atlanta.
Highly doubt anybody is going to give you a spot over the internets. Go to tackle and fly shops, buy a bunch of stuff, and stand around and talk but don’t get in the way of them being able to help other customers. You’ll get better ideas that way.
Google Earth is your friend for scouting for flats. Look for light tan, whitish, colored bottom. A lot of times you’ll see it around islands in the marsh. Scout on Google Earth for areas that look like that that could be accessible from a road.
I’m scouting and looking for some for myself to fish also.
Thats what I was going to assume. Don’t ask don’t get haha. Anyway, I have used google earth before to find some down by Hilton Head and Capers Island and was somewhat successful that way.
Do you have any recommendations for a good fly shop or tackle in general?</font id=“Trebuchet MS”>
Solegre road heading to the boat landing kings flat side, on the way to folly beach were you can look and see Backmans seafood’s shrimp boat, off of the Bowens Island rd, and under the JI connector toward the golf course. Wear some good water shoes because if not you will get cut or loose them in mud the taller the grass usually means the softer the mud. Don’t be afraid to go before the tide floods to spot good areas to target.

The guys at Lowcountry Fly Shop in Mt. P on Coleman Blvd. have been helpful to me.

Thanks for the info! Ill be getting down there in a couple weekends so might try and scout it and fish if I have some time. Try and post some pics if I get lucky on my first try.
People that give flats info on the internet…shame. Its why you can’t have a nice flat to yourself anymore.
The tailing trails off in November. They are still on the flats through the winter time, but rarely are actively tailing…at least not like in the summer time.
The guys at Charleston Angler are a great bunch with good local knowledge too. There’s no substitute for hard work and time on the water. Put in the time and it will pay off. Take the tips and advice and apply it to the area where you live; you’ll figure it out in a few floods.
I get more out of me scouting a brand new area and finding a few fish than if someone were to just tell me where the fish are and how to catch them.
