Hey everyone,
Is it possible to get to the flats without having a boat? After looking at google maps it seems like the only good access points are through people’s yards.
-Thanks in advance.

No, most people don’t. Don’t trespass. That’s asking for trouble.
Keep looking; there are lots of flats that hold fish you can access without trespassing.

Do you know if it’s okay to park along Folly road?
get a kayak
Just about any road that goes to a barrier island will have a causeways across enormous expanses of flats. Google Earth is your friend.

I would, but I’m in med school at MUSC, and I don’t have the space or money.
Folly Beach County Park…the flat on the Folly River holds fish…
that is where I cut my teeth catching reds when I was at the Citadel around 98.
Thanks everyone, I’m actually about to go check out folly road right now. I’ll post a picture if I catch anything.
walked a flat last night from about 6:30-8 PM. Tide came in quick with the 15-20 mph S wind. Didn’t see anything. Maybe water is too warm right now?

I went out at about 6, and I I didn’t see anything anything except for mullet. At about 7, I saw something busting through a school of mullet right in a gulley next to the road, and I threw a white clouser pattern out and stripped it along with the school. On my third cast into the school, I hooked into what turned out to be a nice 27 inch red. It had three good runs and was released healthy. Other than that i almost lost my flip flop, which was a poor choice in footwear.
Glad you got into a fish… However, I would avoid laying fish on hot asphalt for a photo op… also it would appear that you hooked that one deep, by all the blood on the fish/ground… It happens, but in those cases, just cut the leader short and try to get em’ back in teh water fast… Thats alot of stress on that fish…
Seriously though, good on you for the catch… just be a little more careful with our spottailed buddies in the future…
