Wando 3/29

I decided that I needed to get out and try to make up for my horrible showing at the IFA in Savannah this past weekend. I launched this morning sometime close to 630 and started out throwing topwater. To be honest I was not expecting much of anything on topwater but much to my delight the fish were hungry. I managed to pick up two trout (19.5" and 13") and two reds ( 29.5" and 25"). I had several other short strikes and two reds that came off. After that I decided to cover some serious water to check out an area I had never fished before.

I found plenty of reds hanging out off of the oyster bars, up against the grass, and back in the little creeks. They wanted nothing to do with anything I threw at them. I even had two a charge my bait, side swipe it, and go right back to where they were before like nothing had happened. I got some bait to see if that would work. Nothing on muds or mullet! At this point I decided to take a break and grab some lunch.

After getting back out I quickly picked up a couple of 13.75" flounder and a hard fighting 25" red. However, that was about the extent of my luck. About an hour before sunset I found quite a few reds in the shallows busting on bait. I hooked up with one that broke me off on some oysters. Then I had 5 or 6 that charged it, smacked it, and swam off. I just could not figure out what they wanted today. I switched back to topwater on the way in and picked up two more trout (15"-16"). Not a bad day but I saw way more fish than I caught today.

Where’d you launch from? How much is serious water?

There is no greater fan of fly fishing than the mud minnow.

I launched from the land. As for the distance, it was close to three mile from where I was fishing. I covered atleast 12 miles today, probaly more.

Went out on the Wando Friday am

Saw two reds in the short grass didnt hook up

My log book said to use cut mullet on the bottom in the main river it worked - I staked out and caught 4 nice reds in the same location

Seems like the schools are breaking up I call them pods now 5 to 15 fish each

Great idea top water is picking up!

Had an invite on a friends boat for late PM Friday targeting top water - I didn’t go but they caught 3 reds on top water
