Wando Flounder Trip 10-15-12

I made a trip out last night with my next door neighbor to do some flounder gigging. It was his first time ever gigging for flounder. We put in the Wando around 1130pm on the falling tide the water was nice and flat no wind and even better no bugs. We headed up to some areas I’ve been wanting to try for a while. We got all set up lights out gigs ready clear water yes now all we needed was some flounder. We moved along in about 1 to 2 feet of water scanning the bottom. I noticed a few small flounder and was able to show my neighbor what he was looking for then it was on! Before I could finish explaing what he needed to do if he saw some fish he asked is that one? I looked over and saw a nice 17 " fish laying there and said yes no hesitation he stuck him. First fish in the boat by the neewbe that was great!!! We ended up staying out untill the water got high around sun up. We were able to score 6 fish to bring home 2 that got away from us one from the new guy and one from me I went after him to late and missed all together. We must have seen about 20 fish or so a lot of them were really small. We also saw a couple of schools of redfish but no sheepshead. I can’t wait for the next trip out and either can my neighbor he left my house on his way to go look at jon boats.

guys…try to gig in the gill plates. You ruin lots of meat when you gig them in the middle

Yes Sir Sellsfish I know…I had a rookie on the boat as i stated in my report he was told several times he is just learning. I’m sure you can tell the two fish that he gigged.

OK… I want to go gigging.

Welcome to one of the funniest things you’ll ever do! Did you use battery lights or a generator? We have a generator but I really prefer batteries and the quietness of it. Teach your friend also how to measure a fish by looking at it compared to the width of his gig head…my daddy taught me that and it helps a lot in "selecting " fish and judging how big they are. Glad the weather and tides were good to you. Those are some nice fish you got there…and some goooood eating! Congrats again!

Oh yeah…I love the way you placed them in the "sports " section
