Wando Grand Slam!!! Friday 10-12-12

Well I finally convinced a good friend (corey1031) to take a day off from work to go fishing together. We left my house at 730am and headed out for the upper Wando. We started off fishing the last half of the outgoing tide with artificials.(trout tricks) We both caught several small 13" trout a couple of rat reds and corey1031 caught a keeper trout 19". As the water got low the bugs got worse there wasn’t any wind to speak of to help keep them away. As we couldn’t take the bugs anymore we decided to head out and find some redfish. By now the water was low and incoming so we switched to fishing live mullet carolina rigged. We both caught several nice upper slot 22 3/4" reds and a couple overslot 27". We moved around to several different areas running from the bugs but seemed to find fish at each location. We ended up with two more keeper trout 16" and 19" as well as a 18" flounder caught with a trout trick also. We both caught several more small trout and seemed to miss quite a few more strikes. It was a great day of fishing with a great friend the weather was awesome and the fish were hungry can’t get much better than that!!!

Nice catch guys, where did you pick up those rod holders in the 2nd photo on the pole pad ladder … I need me a couple

Looks like a regular slam to me… you know the Wando “Grand” slam also includes a stingray and a blue crab right?:stuck_out_tongue: Nice fish!

** just for clarification… the above was a joke meant to be funny and not a threat in any way or meant to be negative**

I guess from some of the people on here I need to clarify this to them :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry Hurricane701 the rod holders were on the boat when i bought it. However I'm pretty sure I saw the same rod holders at west marine a while back.

Hurricane,

This looks very similar to the rod holder you were asking about: http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=444420&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&storeId=11151&storeNum=50842&subdeptNum=50843&classNum=50844#.UHoRY4ZnVFI

Hope that helps!

Thanks guys, I am actually going by West Marine in the am before I head out so i will take a peak never seem to have enough rod holders

Just fyi, I had bought some similar ones at West Marine for my old boat. Make sure you tighten all visible screws before you mount them. There was a screw that mounts the clamp to the tube that was not very tight and it shook loose and fell off while on the water.

They made good on it and replaced them free of charge. Replacements had screws loose right from the package. I tightened all visible screws and they never flinched after that.

I also used some old rubber hose to put between the clamp and railing to prevent it from marring the surface. Glad I did.

Thanks DDS2!! That was epic day of fishing. Weather could not have been better. The “Flying Teeth” was driving us slightly crazy but things could have been worse.

Tricky trout tricks did the trick. Had fun working that bait. Cant wait to do that again. Thanks again DDS2!!

Nice pix, we went Sun 14th, 2 non keepers trout , 2 reds, one was a keepa. However not caught by me. Zero balance, my friends son caught them all, but still a lot of fun. Carolina rig with mud minnows, thanks for your post!
