Friday: took a friend that just got into fishing, his wife got him a new combo for his birthday last weekend. Anyway…put in at 12, netted 100+ shrimp for later then headed to the harbor to put him on a bonnet on some blue crab I had. Set up on a ledge, fish on in 5 mins, then another right after landing the first one, both bonnets at 17# on boga. After that hour we headed back to the upper wando to float some shrimp. Couldn’t keep floats above water, lots of trout…kept 6 nice ones for the both of us…ran out of bait…caught 30+ trout, could’ve caught more but my boy was still learning about setting hooks and keeping the line tight…thats what its all about though.
Sunday: just me and the gf, netted some trophy shrimp in front of Daniel island, headed to some spots I haven’t hit in years closer to 526 than I typically fish. Same story, fish after fish. I was equalizing, she had a light Carolina rig…countless doubles until it got so hot I couldn’t fish…i was releasing and baiting her with no time for me…best problem ever! Finished with over 40trout,1 ladyfish and a flounder…all but 4 released.
This is what I’ve been used to the past 10years…its been a scary slow summer (with trout) for me…was happy to see things back to normal…at least for one weekend. Oh, after running out of bait yesterday, I casted a doa for a minute…they weren’t as quick with hitting, but still connected on 2/3 casts.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
