Wando on 5/10 - First Fish on Fly on Boat

Decided to get out for a couple hours of fishing yesterday afternoon, taking advantage of the nice weather. Water temps were up to 80 on the flats and 76 in the main river. Fished last 3 hours of the falling tide. Fished some creeks, flats and docks on the Wando between the 526 bridge and 41 bridge, mostly around Nowell/Beresford creek. After about an hour of poking around some feeder creeks, we found a nice school of reds that we were able to pick at for awhile. Although we were only about 50 feet from the mouth of a small feeder creek the reds has somehow slipped past us while we were staked out and were stacked up on an oyster bar right at the mouth of the feeder. We were poling out of the creek when we initially ran over them. Managed to get about 6 out of the school, mostly slot with a couple of bigger fish. My buddy got two on the fly (first time for my boat) with a 20 year old clouser that he had never caught anything on. They wouldn’t bite a crab pattern but took the clouser almost immediately. Fished the last hour of the outgoing on a deep water dock and got another 6 or so reds in the boat on mud minnows, cut mullet, and frozen shrimp. Great day on the water!

Nice fish!

Real skiffs have tillers :o)

My greatest catch was also a release.
