We went on the Wando this afternoon and we went to Paradise landing, which was packed but we managed to get out there. We went to the usual spot to get bait, and caught about 70 large shrimp, so we were set. The tide came in fast and we missed our spot by about 40 minutes. It needed to be lower to get the big ones, as they are smart and move quickly into the grass. We manged 2 slot reds in that spot and 2 rat reds. Then the bite shut off. We drifted along with our corks but nothing hit. We moved back up to the first spot and caught a decent trout. We tried going up into a deep grass flat, and threw topwaters but didn’t even see a fish. We have learned a lot about fish movement lately, because we catch the real big ones at the very beginning of incoming, and when the water starts moving in real strong the slotties will bite, then once the water is mostly in the grass the bite will slow down and we will only catch rat reds.
We got dinner out of the 2 slot reds and the slot trout. Trout are being asked to be released, so we usually let them go, but somehow the circle hook still gut hooked him, and I didn’t want it to go to waste.
Bunch o’ wild people!
Cool crab pic
“In every species of fish I’ve angled for, it is the ones that have got away that thrill me the most, the ones that keep fresh in my memory. So I say it is good to lose fish. If we didn’t, much of the thrill of angling would be gone.” Ray Bergman
