Easily the best weather and fishing yet for me in Charleston this Saturday. I put in at Remley’s in the morning, caught some mullet in the throw net and put out two carolina rigs at the mouth of a small creek. Not a bad place to sip a coffee, but no action.
My wife came out during the middle of the day and we cruised around Castle Pinckney and Crab Bank. Lots of folks catching shrimp at deep hole, but I didn’t have a taped net so we just watched and learned. Then she said she was ready to be on dry land and that I should keep fishing. Hell yeah! I knew just where to be based on some recent success.
I moved around an oyster/mud flat for about an hour before I caught red #1 in a outgoing marsh washout that was absolutely ripping. I think I pulled the circle hook out of his mouth twice, before finally convincing myself to let it run with it. Put up a great fight on light tackle.
Thousands of mullet had poured out of the marsh and we’re hugging the grass line, but I couldn’t stay there or I’d be spending the night solo on the boat. So trying to think like a fish I moved again to get closer to the oysters and bigger water. The result was red #2 and another great fight.
Both on the live mullet under a popping cork with a circle hook. I didn’t work it too hard and let the drag set the hook. Corner pocket both times.
My only regret is not catching dinner and not having a tagging kit, since they were just barely overslot. 51" total day and a personal best by a longshot.
Cheers to the forum for good advice! Hope you all have the same good luck that I did.
