I was thinking of not posting this, but in case it might help someone in some way, I’ll go ahead.
Jimislander went with me today, and we pitched grubs on the Wando. We managed a dozen trout and a baker’s dozen of redfish–all on smoke silver and copper grubs. Got several top-of-the-slot reds today–nice “square” fish. Trout were still smallish, but a little better today. The water was still fairly muddy on the outgoing tide on the main river. I still haven’t gone to the upper Wando as planned. I meant to check it out today, but ended up staying below Horlbeck all day because my TM batteries weren’t fully charged, and I didn’t really think that exploring new ground on a falling tide with a weak TM was a great idea. I’m pretty determined to hit the upper Wando on my next trip over that way, though.

The upper wando holds no fish wager much to muddy and it has too much rain water don’t waste your time.
“In every species of fish I’ve angled for, it is the ones that have got away that thrill me the most, the ones that keep fresh in my memory. So I say it is good to lose fish. If we didn’t, much of the thrill of angling would be gone.” Ray Bergman
I’ve always heard the upper Wando was good, as y’all are implying, but whenever I fish that river, I put in at Remley’s and never end up making it past Horlbeck because I always think, “I’ll just check this spot out for a few minutes” and end up catching fish and not making it north. I probably would have hit it up yesterday if I’d had a full charge on the batteries.
Anyway, y’all ought to post some reports from the upper Wando. The only one I’ve seen lately is about the same as the lower.
Have y’all been scoring better catches in the upper this week? If so, the site would benefit from your reports. It would be helpful to know. Reports are the primary bloodline of the site and are appreciated by all for learning and passive entertainment, so I encourage you (everyone) to post. I would have been posting more reports in the last few months, but I simply haven’t fished in months until a couple of Fridays ago. I almost didn’t post this one because there are always so many smart-aleck comments, but I figured, “what the heck? It might help someone.” So, if anyone is holding back because of that kind of thing, I understand that, but just try to blow it off if you can, and post anyway.
I’ve fished 3 times in the last several months, all three on the lower Wando in the last couple of weeks. I’ve noticed that there haven’t been many reports from hardly anyone lately. Posts from weeks ago are still on the front page. I don’t know if it’s because people aren’t doing well or just don’t want to be sassed by a lurker. Good to see the reports that have been posted, though. Some more reports from other areas would be great to see. I’ll probably be fishing most all of the rivers over the next few months, so I’ll probably be posting reports from various places.
Anyway, the site benefits from reports, so post 'em if you got 'em. Makes for good reading when people can’t get out and fish.
Had a great time fishing with Gotcha yesterday; thanks Lee!
Gotcha pulled in four fish for every one I caught. I’m blaming this on that fact that he was in the front of the boat, running the trolling motor. Obviously he spooked the fish, and I picked up the strays.
Really there was no reason to head further up river, because there were fish all over the place. I think one or two trout were keepers, but they were released to grow some more.
LOL. I knew you were going to pull that one on me.
Man, seriously, though, I’ll gladly let you take the trolling motor when you want to, and I’ll fish from the chair in the back. Just holler. My feet and neck hurt me something fierce after standing up there and running that motor for a while, and when it’s a little breezy, it’s tought to work the motor and fish. It ain’t like when I was younger. My feet were spec’ed out for about 175 lbs, and they are now toting way over spec at about 250 lbs. Totally my wife’s fault.
