I haven’t had much to report on in the last month. Went out on the Wando with a friend around 0800. Tide was high and beginning to fall. Tried a few spots with not much luck. At the third location, we started getting bites and I ended up having 3 GULP grubs ripped in half. Ended up catching 1 small red and 3 rock seabass. Moved again and on the way picked up some live bait in the creeks since the tide had dropped enough. Managed to get some mullet and about a dozen shrimp after quite a few casts. Made it to the spot and put a shrimp on the bottom. Within a minute, I landed a 19" red. Lost a few shrimp and then landed a 12" trout. Running low on shrimp, I managed to get one more 17.5" red to the boat. Low tide and the threat of storms rolled in so we called it a day. Glad I finally had a good day on the water.
Menhaden are heavy just off Daniel island. Not sure where you put in but always good to load the well with hadens to start the trip.
Nice to hear about your good trip.

Thanks. I put in at Remleys most of the time, so I will check for some haden next time.
How big are those manhadens in that area on average and what part of the island have they been hangin around?
Across from the welch terminal close to di. Four inch which is perfect in my book for red bait.

I don’t use too many artificial baits, any tips on how to hook the fish and not just lose half of the gulp bait? I switched to a smaller bait but then couldn’t get any bites.
Usually when you loose half of soft plastics it is blue fish. They are notorious chompers of soft plastic. When you hook one you can feel them chewing bait and line all the way back to boat.
Blues obviously have great eyesight. But, I ever understood why a blue will cut a bait cleanly in half just short of the the hook, as if they are avoiding it, but will readily jump on the treble hooks of a plug. Good report. Glad you guys had a successful morning.
