This is not for you guys that chase all the time.Rookie take notes!! First get the right tackle for Redfish. No cork float garbage and brim buster rig.Second go with someone that can show you how to tie knots and rig up properly for Redfish.Third show up 15 minutes before expected time.Fourth do not bring the kitchen sink with you.Fifth be quiet and listen to what you are being told about Redfish fishing.Sixth Do exactly what you are told by the Boat Captain.Redfishing is not rocket science. Please add anything I forgot!!
Wash the boat and buy the Captain a frosty beverage or two.

STONO,
Number 9 killed it for me as well!
But I’d still love to go fishing with y’all!
Let me know when you’re ready to take out someone who really wants to learn!
Just be patient with my arthritis…cause I move real slow
#10-offer to pay for some fuel.
Double D.
are you saying that you can’t catch redfish on a float setup?
xHCFCx
Fish are too valuable to be caught only once.
No I am saying on my boat that is a last resort.I save that method for places I can not set a Carolina rig.I see no way to set out bottom rigs along a shore line and float fish it as well.We could handle that but the people I take out would have me untangling lines all day Also no rooks on My boat will ever be allowed to throw a plug.

So…I think I can cover all but #9. Used to live in West Ashley but have been in Roanoke, VA fishing the New & James River for a few years. Got out to Ocracoke for the first time hoping for bull reds from the surf(we were a little early in the fall and no luck…lots of Blues tho). Staying on IOP next week (7/9-7/16) Have been thinking I might bring my SOT river kayak and get out behind Sullivan’s to try my luck - but I’d love the chance to learn from someone looking for an excuse to get on the water. I’ll be the best “rookie” I can…and happy to split gas, etc.?
By the way, this is a great board. Thanks in advance to everyone for the great posts and tips!
Stono has put me on fish. he knows what he is doing!
I don’t like float setups either Joe.

float bashers!
many, many a slam (and at least 3 super slams i can recall) on a simple cigar/peg setup (i know stretch likes the poppers)… but i lose a lot of gear when i fish on the bottom!
as the author of the thread points out, it ain’t rocketry- pick something and stick with it till you’ve learned some stuff.
#11: don’t ride a ski/waterbike/jet boat/bad words i usually call them.
Floats are great if you use them the right way.You just can not Carolina rig a shore and float fish the same area.If I intend to cover a large area of shore I will ease up next to shore and let two floats run as far as I can along that shore line.If no hits on 3 floats I move down the line and do it again.I fish rips with floats for trout all the time.I pop corks all the time with the DOA.Seasoned fisherman I know and trust can do what ever they like on my rig. However rooks need close supervision.I have had plugs pull hats off my head,2oz sinkers whiz past my head,Ding my motor hood and hang up on docks all the time.I am way to old now to have a sinker knock Me on my arse by a Rook.Until I trust a rook I even throw the Carolina rig where i need to place it. Corkey almost took out my eye a few years ago.Glad I had sun glasses on.I may get sloppy on My sprinkler system but bet your last dollar I will be tough on My Boat.
