It looks like I’ll be fishing at Yes Bay Lodge outside of Ketchikan, Alaska again this upcoming summer. Yes Bay is an all inclusive fishing lodge that is a 50 mile plane ride out of town and surrounded by miles and miles of unpressured waters close at hand. I MAY see one or two boats from town a day while fishing all day long so feel confident that the only people really fishing the waters near us, is us. We fish two to a boat so you get the full, undivided attention of the guide unlike those 6 pack charters elsewhere in AK. We spend our days trolling for Salmon (Kings, Silvers, Pinks and Chums) and bottom fishing with bait or jigs for Halibut and Rockfish. I won’t even get started on the awesome views and spectacular food… Hopefully Stickman will chime in with details from his experience.
All the fish YOU catch, YOU keep. It gets processed, vacuum packed, labeled, frozen, packaged and ready for you to take bag on the plane. It doesn’t get switched out with other people’s fish like the big smoke houses.
The website and pictures in my Alaskan Fishing thread from this summer (I know I didn’t finish updating through the end of summer before I left for Peru,…) will do a better job explaining everything than I can. Shoot me a PM with any questions!

It’s not cheap but is a first class fiahing lodge. Unlike many other lodges which are in or close to town who fish along side the locals and many other charter guys, we have almost no competition besides ourselves in 90% of the area we fish. If the thought even tickles your mind, you should email Ryan Martinez, the manager at info@yesbay.com. Be sure to ask about the show specials he offers at the outdoors shows try do on the West Coast.
Not cheap but still a good value. Great fishing, food, people, scenery, wildlife.
Have gone the past couple summers as part of a large group . They core group have gone there for 30 years now.
PM me for further details.
Stickman this past August as we were returning to Seward, AK, on a 6-pack we ran into a large pod of Orcas. They were spread out in a very large area. The Captain said they were hunting Salmon. We had them 30 ft from the boat. After watching them a while they moved on and we started in also. We hadn’t gone 100 yds before we saw a Silver Salmon floating on the surface. We got a net and added it to our catch in the box. There wasn’t a mark on the fish, it was just stunned, I guess! We were told that the Orcas will round the Salmon up and then run through the school stunning and eating as many as they can. They must have missed that one. I never knew they even ate Salmon.
