Want to introduce myself....

I may have to talk to Andy and ask him to restart my post count.

My name isn’t really Phin. It’s Wes. I used to be a pretty good fishing boat mate, and I used to fish almost every day. I even used to run a boat after grouper and snapper back in the good ol days (before all the closures). Then came the time when I had to contribute to society and pay lots of taxes like the rest of you people (do we ever get back to a point of not paying so much to the rest of society?)!

Anyway, my wife and I are moving to the Murrells Inlet / Pawleys Island area next month.

I have only fished in your waters 5 or 6 times in my entire life, so it is going to be a new challenge for me to learn the area hopefully the way I know Charleston, Edisto and Beaufort. For now though, don’t worry about me hurting the local fish populations- you might have to worry about shrimp here soon though.
[:0]

Your place says seafood capitol of SC on the welcome sign, so if I can’t catch more than shrimp around there, then we will all know I have made a pretty bad decision to come live up there, right!?

For those of you who don’t know, my wife is a DMD and now an oral surgeon. She will be opening Waccamaw Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in Murrells Inlet next month. She has been at MUSC learning and training for the last 8 years while I have been in law school and then working in Columbia (commuting from Summerville).

Everyone tells me how the Neck and the Inlet are worth the things you give up for what you gain in quality of life. Gee; I will miss all the traffic and sprawl of Dorchester County sooooooo much, right?

We are looking forward to it, and I look forward to seeing and meeting some of you on the water… Just don’t pick on me too much when you see me stuck on a mud flat from time to time during the next few years.

Hey now…Welcome to the Neck/MI. Look for the Ole’ Dude in the Blue Pontoon  It is different here but take it all in stride…

I’m tired of being told that I have to “spread the wealth” to people who don’t have my work ethic. I’m tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it. I think I’m going fishing…!!

you are screwing up big time! the fishing here sucks compared to your waters down there, this is like mardi gras every weekend and overpopulated with only one ramp to the inlet period. and p.s. no shrimp at all… You will have to go to Georgetown for shrimp or anything. I just spend money like a mad man to shrimp in Awendaw or redfish in g-town and suffer here in Murrells inlet with a few take home fish every now and then if I am lucky.

But as bad as the fishing and overcrowded landings and creeks have become, You will love the area!!! the south end is beyond beautiful, I just hope you like to ride and drink, that’s all… LOL the Rice Fields area are good for Spottails some times of the year and Georgetown offers some good fishing and you will be close enough to all that. It is mostly Murrells Inlet that is overcrowded and overfished.

Wes. Is your mobile number still the same? We met a couple of years ago when I was still living on lake murray and I bough some things from you. My wife and I had been debating on moving to the area for the last two years and decided to buy a house in Georgetown a few months ago and we moved 2 weeks ago. I have been keeping my boat here on and off for the last couple of years and fishing out of gtown. Ironically I also met your wife this year and talked fishing because she was one of the surgeons who performed a surgery on my wife. Small world. We will definitely get together soon.

Wes, it’s a pleasure to see you our way. Looking at the North Inlet area and Winyah shoot me a PM. GLM is a good place to keep the boat.

Cool man, welcome to the Inlet. Do you have a location to finish MOJO?

Be careful, she may not look the part, but Mrs. Phin is a grouper slayer too!

MI has been a tourist destination for a long time now. We have some solid fishing its just a little bit of a longer ride to the ledge and good bottom. I would love to take you out one day even though you are a Clemson fan…ha ha…if you wanna inshore fish…Winyah is where to go. Its a big body of water, and the crowds aren’t that bad. The jetties out there are long and hold lots of different types of fish. I don’t live there full time, but have a house on the inlet. I’m there probably 50/60 days a year.

Surely there is a pinfish or two still around Murrells Inlet.

Mike, I got your voice mail- just checked my phone.

We are moving gradually for the next few weeks. Will give you a call tomorrow.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Good luck with the move. Sounds like a busy time. I don’t know how you find the time to work on that boat but I take my hat off to you for what you are doing. Can’t wait to see it at the ramp.

BTW Salty I’m pretty sure we put in next to you at the ramp Saturday morning.

Oh and if I can find fish in MI I’m absoutely positive you can! There’s a few in there. Got to learn how to hold your mouth like the locals.

White Wellcraft V21 dual console, white bimini. I would’ve spoke but my buddy is the one who saw your boat and thought it might be you. He didn’t tell me til later on.

Boat gets put in a holding pattern repeatedly while other stuff occupies the runway for landing and takeoff!

I am changing jobs, moving, working on the boat, moving the boat, and starting a business all at once.

Ready for the good ol days where I am fishing with y’all!
