There’s a little guy Sam about 10 years old at the marina who is nuts about fishing. He doesn’t know anything about it, yet is dying to learn. I gave him an old tacklebox, hooks, weights, floats, swivels, etc and he went nuts. The guys at Haddrell’s in West Ashley tossed him some good stuff as well. He’s saving his little bit of money for a cheap spinning reel to replace the drag-less Zebco he’s got right now. I’m going to try to take him fishing Saturday and get him on some fish and if all goes well, I’ll try to post some pictures.
What I’d really like to track down for him is some of those DNR books on Trout, Sheepshead, Spottail Bass, Flounder, etc. I told him if he wants to learn to fish, he needs to learn all about the fish he’s pursuing and I feel this is the best way for him to do so. Anyone have some of these books (or tackle) laying around that they wouldn’t mind donating to the cause of a young hopeful fisherman?

Rap…take him down to the DNR on Fort Johnson Road. The place where you get your license has a few things but if you go further down the road the old white house on the left there before you get to the main big building at the end usually has a lot of free stuff. Information on fishing, coloring books,posters,etc. thats also where you use to get the books on flounder,sheeps,trout and bass, Last time I was in there they even had posters to color showing the tidal bottom and sharks. Call ahead and they might let you take him to the hatchery part. The folks there are usually really nice. If you cant get down there let me know. Imk not off until mid week again but I’ll be glad to run down there for you and the little guy. Also ask them when they next have the “open house”…day for kids. Rap…Good for you in trying to find things for him.

Rap!!!..you a good Man!!!..Wish there were more like you…this report touched my heart this morning…reminds me of myself when I was a young boy as I lost both my parents when I was 12 (my mom) and 14(my dad)…I too was a little less fortunate and struggled to get enough money to buy some fishing supplies!!!
