wanting to try new area

Has anyone fished The Cove in the ICW and the area around Pitt St. and if the landing on Sullivan’s Island down from Ft. Moultrie is public. Looks like the area is fishy and has anyone gone around the corner and fished the ocean side by Ft. Moultrie.

I have fished the area near Pitt St, and Ft. Moultrie, unless you are an olympian, I wouldn’t adv kayaking that Ocean Pt at Ft. Moultrie due to current. As to Pitt St, I didn’t paddle out into the ICW due to being alone, but I have heard of some good catches in that area. I will join ya one day if you would like

I’ve launched quite a bit at Pitt St and at Sta26 on Sulivans Isl. The ramp past Ft Moultrie is members only at the Fire Station.
Lots of good fishing and TONS of boat traffic in that area.
I’ve never caught reds in the Cove, but have gotten some flounder and trout from the docks there. Caught reds, trout, flounder, black drum, and sharks on the other side of the ICW. Hooked some huge rays and too big for the kayak sharks in the shallow part of teh Harbor next to Pitt St. Again TONS of boat traffic, so be careful.

If you want to go ocean side at SI, drag your yak across the sand and fish the jetty or the sloughs. Dont try going around the point.

Sorry if I’m semi-hijacking this thread…
I’ve never fished that area but it seems (on the map) similar to the area directly across the harbor, around Ft Sumpter. I have fished there and never done well but it looks great so I’m figuring the problem is me. Anyone do well around Ft sumpter? Last time I was there I jiggled fiddlers around the base of the pilings without a bite and bounced live shrimp off the bottom to come up with two of the biggest rays I’ve ever caught but nothing more.

Back to this thread… I’ve never launched at Pitt st. Is the launch spot obvious?
Also TB, looking at google maps it looks like a looooong walkway at sta 26. Is that what you’ve done? Wheel down the walkway then across the sand to launch beachfront?

Ill join ya mr greg. Seen it from a boat, there is some good boat traffic though. I heard that point is killer in the ffall though. There’s a good stretch of no wake zone there also so not to many people run on plane through it. Just shoot me an email ill gover there with ya

So fishing the “Grillage” from a yak is a bad idea? I was over there yesterday scouting the area and found a beach access that looks like a good spot to put in and a is a short paddle to the grillage. Also saw the St.26 boat ramp and noticed it was private.

If two wrongs don’t make a right, try three.

Since when is the Sta. 26 “ramp” private? Hope not, I have used this launch point in the past and enjoy that area.

I have fished the Grillage many times with charters on my Pontoon - big giant reds this time of year 40" to 55"

Kayak would be fun there but the Tide is so strong/dangerous

Could launch from FT Moultrie low tide fish for about 1 to 11/2hours incoming tide only

If anyone wants to try this a safety boat would be strongly suggested

Set up a trip?

Station 26 is public and there is another at Station 19. Low tide out at Pitt St is STEEP!

I fished the grillage from my boat and the current does whip through the shipping channel. I was just curious if anyone had been out there to fish on a yak. If anyone wants to give it a try at low tide I’m game.

If two wrongs don’t make a right, try three.

I have fished the Grillage twice in the kayak…and each time someone in our group has flipped. It is just not a good place for kayaks…

Thanks for all the good info on the area. I don’t think I’m ready for the ocean side just yet but saw from google maps how the point was and just wandered if anyone has gone around it. Too Busy if I ever do I will drag the yak around and put in from the sand. So if anybody wants to meet there at the landing on Sullivan’s Island on Sunday I will be trying to put in around 6 to 6:30 if any body would like to join. Going to fish the docks to the right of the landing and hit the Pitt St. bridge and the marsh around it.

Change to the launch point, going to launch from Pitt St. at 6 to 6:30 offer still stands if anybody wants to go.
