Wapoo Cut 6/5

Went out today and the tide was still pretty high. (covered the whole marsh). Guess thats what happens when you forget to check. Fished a gulp swimming mullet on a small jighead under a cork for about 4 hours. Caught 3 keeper trout, 5 slot reds, 1 27 inch red, and 3 small black drum. the bite was crazy good for around one hour right before I left at mid tide. Came home and enjoyed some fried redfish. So far this has been my best day from shore of the summer. Tight lines you guys and happy summer.

I have yet to try fishing an artificial under a cork. I usually throw them on a jighead or use live bait. Seems like it worked pretty well for you, I may have to try my luck.

I thought it was a little weird when I tried it first. I have learned that gulp lures (especially the small swimming mullet) are best. also lures that dont need much movement to give them action .

We’ve been using DOA shrimp under corks (popping) for years. Trout and reds love’em!

I have fished DOA under corks with ZERO luck. Not a fan of the DOAs but never thought to use curly tails or swimming artificials. Just had a complete “doh” moment haha

Was surprised how effective this is. Tore the trout and reds up.

I think we can all agree popping corks just make everything better

I have out fished friends with live shrimp under a cork and I was using a plastic under a cork. It wasnt an expensive cajun thunder either. It was a big azz bream cork. This is how they do it in La

Do y’all find that the corks/bobbers with the concave tops do any better than the ones with the convex tops? I always kind of “pop” mine, thinking maybe that hollow top makes some noise that might attract fish.

I use both. I use the “concave” tops when there’s some chop on the water and I use the “convex” tops when it’s calm/slick.

I feel the concave displaces more water and is more effective in choppy water and the convex ones don’t displace as much water and are more subtle for slicker conditions. At least that’s what I tell myself.

I like the concave cork because it moves more water when popped. The extra splash gets attention. Same as the Rebel Pop-R or any of the other chugger type baits for bass.
