Water in fuel

Anyone have trouble with the ethanol free at one of the Lex stations? Filled Sat and got alarm and engine running like crap couple hours after.

Not to be stupid but when you say Lex Stations, I assume you are talking a station in Lexington? I was going to fill up with Ethanol Free at the place I usually fill up just outside Newberry on Thursday on my way fishing in the Keys. So if there is some sort of wide spread water in the fuel issue, I really want to know. That happened up on Hartwell a few years ago and was a big problem.

Yes tiger. I didn’t really want to call the station out unless someone else had problems or until I can verify it. Most of those fuels are marked “not a (insert name here) product”, so it may be central distributor. Good luck.

I bought some (25 gal) Saturday right by the house and ran all over Murray with no problems. What area did you buy from?

I get mine from the Pitt Stop (Exxon/Mobile) on the corner of Old Cherokee and Old Chapin …

They have two grades - the regular (87) and the Mid grade …

The Regular 87 octane costs $3.02/gallon and the mid costs $3.20/gallon …

I have used both from that station and never had any issues - that said, lately I have only gotten the regular …

I don’t get it from anywhere else because I’ve had problems with the gas at other places …

… it’s my Wife’s fault we HAVE to fish !!!

That’s where I usually go, Rick. Sat I decided to kill a few birds with one stone, so hit another place. Got skunked on the water too.

Did you go down 378 to the stations at the light were it changes to two lanes? If so, that’s where I got gas the last time I had to have my fuel injectors changed out due to debris in the fuel …

I avoid that place like the plague …

Saturday sucked for us as well, but for different reasons … Got on the water in my first spot - opened the tank and 3/4 of my bait was dead or dying … The rest of the bait looked like complete crap as well …

Despite that we did manage to catch a few keepers - biggest was almost 10# … We then spent the rest of the day pulling U-Riggs in and around the rest of the fleet …LOL

Talked to Happy Bob on the lake that am and he mentioned your bait issues after he had talked to you. What did you figure out? Said you thought maybe related to some change with your well water?

Well, at the risk of hijacking 7cs thread, the short answer is ‘no’ …

After my bait died Saturday I began to (over) think about the situation as I’ve been having issues keeping bait alive from my home tank to the boat tank … Thought maybe I had a bad hose (one I had been using was over 15 yrs old) or bad salt (Tractor supply stopped carrying the salt I typically bought so I got a new bag from Lowes) or that possibly one of my neighbors had treated their well with chlorine … Praying it wasn’t treated well water, I got a new hose - one suitable for drinking and different salt and I filled up the tank like I always do …

Sunday morning I put half dz herring that I had in my home tank (that I had for several weeks) into my boat tank and headed to the bait shop … When I got to the shop and opened the tank, they were all dead … So I went home, dumped the tank, put on my G&M tank and headed back to the bait shop … I used bait shop water and bait shop salt (half cup for 50 gallons isn’t nearly enough, BTW - but I digress) and got my bait …

Got on the water and the bait was beautiful on Sunday … We fished mid-lake and did pretty good for getting on the water 90 minutes late … Fished mid-lake and caught eight keepers - biggest was 10 pounds … But the whole time I was out there I was trying to figure out what the heck was going on … Only variables are water (where from and temp), salt (how much), and tank (is it clean or contaminated) … So I decided that I had to strip everything down and start from scratch

I wish it were that easy …

Rick I’m sure you already know this so I don’t know why I’m telling you this but maybe you had a brain fart that day. Well water is great but super low in oxygen I made the mistake years ago by filling up my tank and adding my salt like I normally do but forgot to turn the tank on before I left the house. Needless to say when I got to the bait store I didn’t think anything of it and just turned my tank on and dumped my herring in and headed to the lake. By the time I got the boat in the water just about all my bait was dead. Went back and explained to Ned what had happened and we concluded that was my cause of losing all of my bait. Whether it was the cause or not I have never forgot to turn my tank on and get the water oxygenated again at least 20 minutes before I get bait. Just my o2 hate when crap like that happens

Just reel or get broke
