Water in transom?

I have a 2004 Key West 186cc. While removing the old transducer for replacement, water began pouring out one of the screw hole for about a minute. If I drill a tiny hole lower on transom or underneath the hull, will 5200 be all that is needed to properly seal the tiny hole? I want to find out if there is more water in there but not quite sure the best way to do this. Any suggestion?

Water coming out of a screw hole in the transom doesn’t sound good!
I would bet there is much more in there lower than the hole. I think your are right about drilling a small hole at the lowest point to ck for and drain water! I think at this point the wood in the interior is waterloged and lost its streingth! Try using a 1 1/2 hole saw and drilling a hole and checking the wood if it good its easy to epoxy up the hole.

Been through the same issue with my boat as well (2009 carolina skiff jv15), but my boat is all composite so don’t have to worry about the wood rot issue. Anyways, I did what you said and let it dry out for a month or so, then patched the hole up. Once it dries out Just 5200 a piece of small wood to the transom and then mount the transducer on that. No holes in the transom means no water intrusion!! O-yeah you may think it is dried out but I would twist up the end of a paper towel and stick it in the hole to check for more water. Good luck!

Thanks. My boat has no wood either. Thats what i’ll do. I don’t know if I can wait a month though haha. Yeah i have a transom saver that i’m mounting the ducer on. Thanks again.

Might be time to spend a day checking screws to ensure they are bedded/sealed.

What he said as well! I always check and re-seal all screws when buying a used boat,
