Need to replace my water pump on a 20hp yam 4 stroke and was thinking I’d like to have an official Yamaha manual for this job and other future routine maintenance activities for this engine. What is the best source for a maintenance manual such as this? I realize that water pump replacement is fairly simple but I’ve never done this before and I also want a manual for future use.
Nothing wrong with a manual, but UTube is often better.

Yamaha 250
Service Manual usually run around $90. Online is for research but I like having the book open while performing the work. Worth every penny.
Youtube is good for explaining how and methods but may not have your exact model, service manual tells you exactly.
It also provides schematics so you know what piece is bolted where and what it should look like.
Also it a really good sources to figure out what maintenance parts you may need and where what lubricant should be applied.
Ditto to purchasing the Yamaha manual, the first time you use it you get your money back. Boat Yards charge $100-$150 per hour.
I perform 90% of my own maintenance ( Navy training) oil, oil filters, greasing, all gas filters, prop removal, changing zincs, some ignition electrical, some minor electrical problems I can figure out with the tech manual.
PS. Check out Boats.net for parts, they have all the drawings for all makes of engines.
I just replaced the impeller in my 40hp.
A few tips besides the service manual:
Make sure the replacement impeller is the correct size. The kit I bought was supposed to be for the 40hp, but the impeller was slightly larger and the Woodruff Key would just spin, instead of catching the impeller (no pee on the test firing). Had to redo the install (thankfully West Marine had the right impeller) and luckily didn’t burn up the motor.
Be sure to watch a few videos before you drop the foot. Mine was bound up at the fly-wheel and I had to use some 2x4s and a rubber mallet.
If you put the motor in reverse before unbolting the lower unit, you can turn the prop to align the splines when you are reassembling the motor. It can save some serious time, but you must do it BEFORE unbolting the lower unit.
This guy has a great tip about using ratchet straps to hold the lower unit during the reinstall.

Grease the shaft really well before you put the whole thing back together.

Thanks LCB. Watched a few videos and that ratchet strap idea was a good on. Not needed for my 20hp but can see that being very useful in larger engines. Everything came apart and went back together easily. I bought the complete Yamaha kit and replaced all components. The water pump is putting out much better pressure now, so the work was justified.
Thanks for the website link too Friogatto.
