Water Pump Replacement

Getting ready to replace the pump on my 2000 Yamaha 115 and was curious if there are any preventative measures I can take to reduce risk of shearing bolts.

Thanks for any insight!

I watched an experienced mechanic remove some difficult bolts on a Mercury lower unit. He used a pneumatic impact wrench set on low power and let it chatter for a few minutes until the bolts started turning.

I would also consider a good soaking with PB Blaster. May not help but sure won’t hurt.

if you think they are seized when you try to turn them, HEAT them with a torch to around 400 degrees

heat and cool process, sprays and lubes are great ways to start fires and should be used on assembly, not disassembly. Impact can help, but you have to be careful.

All good advice!! Useing ,very, very low impact and heat works best imo…
befor reinstalling wet threads lightly with copper based never seize , makes the next install easy peasy…
