water pump/upper engine unit washout

I’ve been going through the archives of this forum and cannot find the answer to whether I need to use both earmuffs and hose rinse-out after use in saltwater. Your opinions will be helpful, as I have just changed over to a Honda 90 that has a hose-type rinse out for the upper unit. I’m thinking both, but not just the upper, as the water pump would not be rinsed if the muffs are not used.

One way or the other ‘should’ complete a good wash-out, but both are not nec. Use the muffs if you prefer, but upper washout works just fine.

So, Salt does that mean that the upper flush flows by gravity down to the pump area to wash off the impeller also when you use the hose in the upper unit?

Gravity and hose pressure flush the pump, You are correct sir.

If you use the hose, spin the engine over to allow fresh water to all surfaces of the water pump, just an opinion.
