Water too cold for catching blue crabs?

I have some family coming into town and they thought it would be fun to go crabbing (chicken and string). I’ve only ever crabbed when the water was warmer, so was curious if it would be worth giving it a shot or if there would be none out to catch?

You might catch one or two lost ones, but the general rule is that the water needs to be warmer to see them in numbers. It might be better to take them fishing off Folly Pier, probably more action and you couldn’t ask for a better location.

Cold water crabs taste better to me but most of the crabbers I know pulled there pots a couple months back because the cost to catch ratio is to close, so it would likely be very slow.

Had some messing with my cut mullet last weekend. Pulled one into the boat, but he was really small. It was on a creek behind IOP.

They are out there, but not in the numbers of the warmer months. Bet best, wait about till May.
