water we doin 8-13

found a nice rip with a temp break, birds working and weeds in 340’ a little north of edisto banks. Caught 5 peanut dolphin, two sharks and had a dozen+ short strikes, which was the story of the day.

had a really nice fish on the way back(blue/white with a horse bally) but a wahoo came in and ate the snap swivel and cut us off.

after a few hours we got sick of messing with super small peanuts and short strikes…Came back onto the ledge to look for wahoo on the way home but they would only eat the naked bally’s on the flats we had out for sails. had a few cut off like that. Would not touch the wire rigs. just one of those days…

pulled lines early to avoid any possible afternoon CHS thunderstorms and ran home at 38mph on a beautiful ocean

For the noobs, what is a “short strike”?

shevin good day full of action it sounds like! What kinda boat you run?

DFreedom…short strike is where the fish bites the tail of the ballyhoo or just behind the hook.

You can use a stinger hook but since the fish we were seeing were very small dolphin we didn’t bother rigging those up.

Fishin its a 27’ EdgeWater w/ twin 250’s.

Nice work…we had the same issues with our naked baits on flat lines and wahoos yesterday

I’m curious how you know all these cutoffs are wahoo. We tried some high speed trolling today and had a tuna dart cutoff. I assumed it was a cuda since all we caught was one big cuda on a yozuri bonita and that hit like a wahoo.

Magezzi…2 trips ago high speed trolling had a cuda hit line closest to boat and 10 seconds later caught a 45 lb hoo on short rigger opposite side- no way to ever really know since they both have sharp teeth which is cutting off but that day proved me wrong that they do hang out together sometimes

Hey LSK happy to keep any and all cudas for you…is there anything you don’t fish for? Fishn, good to know about cudas and wahoo…kinda glad I hadn’t made that connection or I might have trolled longer and missed the grouper bite (post coming soon)
