How many of you fish Wateree? I have been the last three Fridays up in the river with cutbait. Manage to get one each of the first two days but was skunked last Friday.
I really like Murray but the cost of gas will be forcing me to fish a little closer to home.
How many of you free line and down rod shad. It seems to me that the tactics used on Murray would work on Wateree.
As an example instead of going up river to cut bait I should free line in the coves/
Who free lines and when?
I haven’t had much luck with stripers on Wateree but I’ve seen a few caught.

Wateree stripers can move alot and have no problems with going shalllow or close to the banks. The fishing has been poor the past two weeks. I fish lures or troll.
Randy the thing I’ve seen them do up the river is fish cut bait and throw plugs from the bank. I’m gonna be going down week after next. Give me a call.

Yes it’s me. By the way, the wife wouldn’t accept any candy or roses for mothers day, told me I had to take her fishing. Took her and and the kids to Wateree yesterday PM. She landed one that would go about 8 lbs. (Her first). My oldest caught a 5 pounder and the little one wore out the catfish. All I did was bait hooks. Nothing but catfish at the power line. Caught the stripers about half way to the dam. Try cut shad.
