I’ve been wanting to know some info about that too. Pretty hush - hush crew up there. Every time I’m on the lake I see boats trolling the main channels. I know they are striper fishing. I have only found three people who fish and have told me any info. I know some are caught in upper lake on live/cut bait below Cedar Cr dam. Don’t know what time of year? I know some are caught in mid-lower lake in spring by Shaw cove on planer boards. Those were in shallow coves on crank baits. There are also some caught deeper on sides of channels and humps on double rigs. They are a spring time to early summer deal. All three say they pick up some big perch, white bass, and cats along they way. I got my gear ready and plan to find out for myself this year. I will post followups. As to size I’ve seen and heard schoolies up to maybe 8-10#. I don’t think they get as big as on Murray or Clark Hill.

If you see a couple old men trolling in an old ski boat, you need to catch them and ask them what they do. I did and started catching striper the next day. 17-20 feet of water near the side channels , points and troll using umbrella rigs or really anything. Look for the birds or the fish hitting early morning. Its all over by 10am.

Used to do real good trolling u-rigs mid lake towards the dam Spring/Summer.
I bet they are running some water thru it now with all this rain. Wouldn’t mind taking a trip for schooling fish before summer.

I live about 10 min away from Lake Wateree and have tried for the last 3 year years to catch Striper using every method know to man kind. Trolling u-rigs, bucktails, grandma lures, live bait, cut bait. I have only caught 1 fish in 3 years. I use these same techniques in Murray and most days catch a limit by 10am. I have given up on Wateree but some people swear there are good fish in there all I do there is ski, swim and knee board.
Never realy striper fished on the lake but when I usta fish bass tourn. I uae to catch a few on crank baits off points, Bet you could catch them pullin boards with gizs tis time of the year! The lake seems to me a lot like Greenwood.
Go to the Crappie.com Forum to the South Carolina Section.
There are a lot of guys on there that crappie and striper fish.
You can usually get some good information from them, or at least I have in the past. Don’t fish Wateree anymore. Too far for me.
Where is that crappie forum at the link doesn’t work

Weston,
That link works fine for me.

Me too.
The real question is why fish Wateree when Murray is so close by. I have had no luck there. The people I know that have have all been pulling U rigs.
I got it now

Plus there are signs up saying not to eat too many of the striper\catfish out of wateree at most of the landings. I do live close by wateree but cant catch fish there so I go to murray.
Consumption of Stripers and Blue Catfish from Wateree should be no more than 8 ounces per month due to elevated levels of PCBs. Largemouth limited to 8 ounces per week…
