Me and my boy towed our little boat up to Maine to see if we could get a spot on “Wicked Tuna”. While my son is only 15, he’s a fairly seasoned offshore veteran. We saw a window opening up a three day period of 2’@ 12-15 seconds. Planned for an overnighter at Plattz Bank in the Gulf of Maine as the few tuna being caught we being caught offshore. Tuesday morning we headed out, caught bait at some inshore humps, then hammered down to Plattz. Arrived to find a dozen or so boats already fishing, so we poked around an found a decent dropoff to set up on. Around 630pm I yelled to the boy that we were marking a fish @ 100’. No sooner were the words out of my mouth, the 75’ balloon went down and the reel began to scream. Hour and a half later, my boy had his first giant tuna under his belt. Enjoy.

Nice stuff right there. Just curious but what did you do with the tuna? Are you allowed to sell it or do you have about 50 very luck friends right now and how would you get it back?

For that much sushi I’d buy a freezer and generator and put it in the back of the truck!

WOW doesnt look like that was your first BFT you ever put in that boat. Good to always have a well laid out plain.

Where in Maine were y’all? We have a house up in Southwest Harbor on Mount Desert. I’ve always wanted to go fishing for BFT’s! Nice catch and what great memories you and your son will share!
Great video, I think you need a bigger boat!

ROCK ON!
Nice fish! That is a well built top on that boat.
We were fishing out of Saco, just south of Portland. The boat is your standard 21’ Regulator with factory ttop, I just welded a gusset for the block and tackle. It is the first BFT to be dropped on her deck. The gear is about 20 yrs old from my younger tunachasing days, I just hung on to it hoping to one day use them again. My boy said he was ready this year. I don’t want a bigger boat, I like being able to trailer to where ever I want to fish. My boy likes to grouper and kankfish in Fla in the winter.
I kinda feel sorry for the guys that have bigger boats, especially the one’s that don’t take their kids on them. My son has learned a lot more than how to fish from his time spent offshore.
