Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I have been in your position before and I know how terribly hard it is. I will keep you, the rest of his friends, and his family in my thoughts in my prayers.

“Back home we got a taxidermy man. He gonna have a heart attack when he see what I brung him”

The guy let me borrow his late model offshore boat the first time I ever met him really…

The last (I think) thing he said to me shows what kinda man he was… He said, “Man, you don’t owe me nothing! Tell you what though, I might collect on this when you can go with us again when my boys can get out there too and you put them on the fish!”

Wide open like “scootin” said. Worked hard and played hard. He was never the one who said it was time to throw the bait out or stow away the dive gear. Always ready for more and always behind you when you had a challenge ahead.

See some of you in Manning tomorrow.

God bless you guys and his family wish I could have had the chance to meet him!!! Sad sad story!

I has been a tough day. Michael (Chunky Dunk) my little brother is taking this very hard. He and Ed were very close and he was the last one to see Ed Sunday morning. The last two years we have done nothing but talk about offshore fishing and diving. We had a group we called the Clarendon boys but it was much larger than just Manning, Ed had buddies all over and you never knew who would be along for the ride. We bought boats together, tackle, rods reels, etc. We share just about everything equipment wise. If I didn’t have it I could always check with Ed and he would do the same. Fishing is something we are all passionate about. I spoke to Ed last week and he was all excited about working a deal with hdgb so he could upgrade to a 31 contender. We were talking about rods and setups. I tried to talk him into something bigger like a small sporty but in traditional Ed style he said “scootin that ain’t fast enough, I like the Contenders!” He was not the sit in the bean bag king of guy. He always stood at the helm with the radio blasting. He kept the boat spotless and was the guy always checking up on the crew, whether it was helping you put on scuba gear, getting bait, moving rods, or making one of his famous offshore cheese burgers. He lived life to the fullest, he never left anything on the table. It will be tough going out there with out him.

There was another side of Ed too. One I never saw much off but he was a ■■■■ good race car driver. Just google his name and you will find countless articles about his dirt track racing. I never got to see him race but he was always inviting me. The guy was always on the go. I will miss him.

Please keep his family and friends in your prayers. Thanks for all the kind words.

The service will be tomorrow at 3pm at Stephens Funeral home in Manning.

Chunky and Dad went to the visitation tonight. Dad said there was no less than 2 thousand people there. Many standing in the pouring rain for hours just to wish his family there condolences.

Being from the same county, I know that’s a big loss in such a small, tight knit community. I hurt for family and friends. You mentioned that Ed drove race cars, also…and he was a darn good driver. If we can learn a lesson from this tragedy, WEAR YOUR SEAT BELT…even on short familiar trips. This thread wouldn’t be here if Ed had been wearing his seat belt. My father told me from a very early age…safety doesn’t cost that much, until you forget it.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. We never know when our time will come. Sounds like he left a great lasting impression on many. Are there any needs for his family. I did not know if he had a wife and kids. Sometimes when guys die so young there are many family needs. Let us know if they need help financial or other. I am sure the folks of this site are willing to help if they can.

Ed has 2 sons and a very supportive family. They have done quite well for themselves over the years with alot of hard work. When Ed wasn’t fishing he was at Clarendon Auto Parts working wide open. You could sit there and watch him run around getting this and that for his customers. Not much time to talk when people were in the store had to get this guys alternator and that guys radiator hose. It made me tired just watching him dash around. He father “Slick” as everyone calls him in Manning had pretty much handed the business over to Ed. His mom does all there books. They are one of those Mom and Pop businesses that truly thrived over the years because of good ole roll your sleeves up hard work. He had alot of money but you would never know it fishing with him. Most all of his stuff was borrowed from this guy or traded for something from that guy. He would just assume spend his money on his boys. He loved getting a deal on something. That was part of the adventure for him.

Thanks for your concerns Andy, his family needs what money can’t buy right now, just keep them in your prayers.

I will not get into a battle of wits with a man who is completely unarmed!

Understood. They are certainly in our prayers.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

As scouting mentioned Ed and i were in a boat trading deal. He wanted to do it last summer but i wouldn’t part with it. He was at me again last week and i was folding.
Wish to god i had given it too him sooner.so he could have run that black speedster the way it deserves. All i’m saying guys is things ain’t worth **** without good people enjoying them together. Ed was one of the good ones. We here in Manning are heart broken for the loss. Live everyday like its your last.
God bless you ED
May you have flat seas to run WOT to your final destination

Sorry for your loss S4G. Sounds like Ed was a great guy to be around and will be missed by many. My prayers are with his family and friends.

Good article in the “Morning News” here in Florence about him yesterday.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends!

I lost one of my fishing buddies and best friend back several years ago in a motorcycle accident and I feel your pain!

Remember the good times!

Here are a few pictures I had from over the years. I also have a really good video I will post after we edit out some of Chunky’s usual language.

You will be missed buddy.

Kent may have shot this fish but Ed gets credit for lifting the stringer out of the water.
