Capt. Mark has been in Washington, DC the last few days. This was done out of his own pocket with some help from others. If you are able, please contact him and offer financial assistance with all the traveling he’s been doing on our behalf. He is basically now a part time lobbyist. A mostly thankless job (I know) as you help thousands who don’t even care to keep up with what’s going on. Thousands more of us are simply just too busy to dive in and stay involved as he has been.
He met with EVERY single Congressman and Senator from SC in Washington plus some from other states, and he was successful in getting their commitment to help. This is not just something that happened overnight, mind you. He has been working with Chambers of Commerce, the Recreational Fishing Alliance, National Association of Charterboat Operators, and MANY, MANY folks in our community. If I start naming them, I will leave people out.
The biggest thanks is deserved by Mark in my opinion though. It is not his job to be helping us. He may not see short term benefit from any of this work personally, but he has sacrificed a whole lot I assure you.
Just wanted to let y’all know that he went with others to the rally RFA helped organize yesterday in DC, and he was up there a few days ago ahead of everyone else making rounds all over capitol hill. Congressmen Tim Scott and Jeff Duncan committed to sign on as co-sponsors of H.R. 3061, the Flexibility in Rebuilding Fisheries bill that will help out with a ton of our fisheries (mis)management problems. The bill is slowly gaining more and more traction. Congressmen Scott and Duncan also came and spoke at the fishermen’s rally yesterday, mostly at Mark’s request.
Here is a vid of the rally. You may not recognize salty Mark all dressed up!
Most of you had no idea this all was going on. I am partly to blame. Too busy. I will try to recommit to giving everyone reading this forum as much info as possible as often as pos
Thanks to you Phin and a special thanks to Capt. Mark.

Phin thanks for posting and more thanks to Capt Mark. It is so easy to get caught up in our own lives and let important situations and problems like this continue and then before we know it , its to late. Thanks for posting.
Mark has comitted a tremendous amount of time and resources and is probably one of the most knowledgeable people when it comes to understanding the myriad of rules and proposed regulations. He has been at the front of this fight since before we started this site 12 years ago. He has helped many of us understand some of these things better and has also been an awesome representative for all of us. I thank him and others like Phin & Skinneej that have taken the time to point out the errors in the current management plans. You will not find a better guy to fish with than Mark as well.
Thanks for everything you all have done for us all as fisherman!!! Phin thanks for everything you have done keeping us informed as well. Is there anyway anyone can post a P.O. box/address etc… we can send any donations/letters etc… to?? Thanks again for everything you all have done for all of us!!!
