Wow, lucky dude. I always wear mine when I am alone. Need to do so even when others are in the boat.

That’s pretty scary right there…someone was looking out for that guy for sure.

Great wake up call. I’ll pay more attention to wear mine. I have slacked often

Something similar happened to my Dad when I was a teenager. He was racing my brother in law in the Bohicket in front of the Boy Scout Camp. We were all on the dock watching, they made a tight turn and he fell off the seat into the bottom of the boat and it was standing on it’s tail spinning like top. He messed up his shoulder pretty good but finally got control of the tiller.
Gotta be careful… no matter how old you are.

Always wear my life jacket and kill lanyard while alone and underway. If I’ve got waterman in the boat, I’ll often not wear the lanyard. Probably not a good idea. Lately I’ve been wearing it even then. With family and non-boating friends, again, I always wear the lanyard while underway. Probably best to wear it no matter what when underway.

I hereby commit to wear mine from now on when underway, no matter who is in the boat. Further, if I let someone else drive, they’re going to have to wear it.

Always wear mine. Don’t want to get run over by my own boat.

No sense wearing it only when you’re alone. Just as easy for everyone to get thrown out of the boat as it is when you’re by yourself. Almost threw three of us out one time. That would have been horrible, watching as each one of us got run over.

That is a scary story. Those type of incidents make you think. Boating accidents can happen a flash. Trust me I have been in 2 boating incidents. Was ran over on the Colorado river when inner tubing when I was a in my 20’s. Prop across the foot does wonders. 3 summers ago my motor dropped down on my thumb. Yea sounds crazy but the motor wouldn’t go down, well that is until my thumb was in the wrong place. I am a safe boater just unlucky i guess.

A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.

Mine is wrapped around my center console pole. Need to get into the habit of wearing it. Things can happen quick.

When fishing jetties this summer I got into the habit of having my throw cushion handy lest someone go over in that current while we were anchored. Anything can happen, and thinking of as many as you can beforehand and being prepared is at least a start towards safer boating.

Scary reminder. Thanks for posting it, Red.

Guys I preach to all my friends about wearing kill-switches. They are there for a reason and they can’t do any good somewhere other than on your person. I worked on a guy about 12 years ago that ejected himself out of a 25ft Mako w/ twin outboards. He hit the water, the boat did circles around him for a little while and eventually came to him. That’s a preventable mistake. There are too many preventable mistakes on the water.
