Did I read the Isle of Palms weather site correctly - 10 to 15 to 20 mph winds with gusts up to 25 for Thursday thru Saturday? That is some nasty conditions. I don’t know if I should bring a boat or a ship to shrimp off of. What???
Yep, you read it correctly. That blows. I did BB in similar conditions on opening Saturday and got hammered. Man, two puns in two sentences. I amaze myself sometimes.
Don’t be scared. You just have to pick locations that work well with the wind direction.
Head to Cowpens, or Key inlet. They are pretty sheltered from a NE wind, and the creeks leading into them are safe.
I would stay away from Bulls Bay, or the harbor. Unless you plan to shrimp near Capers/Dewees.

Cowpens was white capping opening Saturday with a 12-17kt forecast. Anything over 10-15 I am staying home. Too hard and too dangerous. Little shrimp aren’t worth it.

The wind has been blowing out of the North East at 20-25 all week on the Folly River.
It don’t matter the size of the boat shrimping in 20 K wind is a “B” unless you drag!

I am on IOP right now and it is a good 10-12 mph breeze. The forecasts I see for tonight are calling for less wind than we have now.
I would be more worried about rain than wind. We got some heavy rain last night.

Lol…I don’t know what you’ve been told but cowpens will not give you any protection from the wind. It was rollrers and whitecaps this morning as we tried to work daddy’s pots. Couldn’t get to some of them like we usually do.
