so far it looks do-able. anyone else have plans on goin? will be leaving from edisto at 4 weather permitting. having a buddy boat would be nice.

marshgrass, where have you looked for the forecast? i have checked 2 and it shows a 3’ SE swell wind less than 10. sat doesnt look good at all though

Depends how big a boat you’re on, how bad you want to fish, what you consider uncomfortable. You never know unless you go though.

I will be on an 18’ grady white. I realize these aren’t ideal conditions but the itch I have is getting bad. The further I look at the weather it shows 3’ with a possible 4’ mixed in at 7.5 seconds. How bad of a beating would we incur going slow and taking them on the nose?

If the wind aint blowin then go for it. I don’t even look at wave heights really. It looks pretty good to me.
Any 4’ wave on a 18’ boat is going to be a significant event. I would fish Friday if I could. It looks good enough to fish my boat of today and my previous boat, but not in an 18’ boat. Find someone that needs a hand and go with them. There will be days you can take your boat, I don’t think I would call Friday one of them.
If the wind forecast is missed at all, the wind will blow the tops off those 4 footers. I’d wait for a better day so your trip will be more enjoyable…of course keep an eye on the weather bc it may change.

I want to get back out there, as well (reel* bad), but I want to be bale to fish plenty more times, also!! There will be better (pick your days) days for boats of our sizes. A fish is not worth it IMO. Now, I have been on white knuckle days, and had fun and success, but if the wind would have picked up more, I might have had to be rescued, or worse, not be here to type this…

heading out of beaufort straight out… there’s a 71-77 temp break about 55nm off the sea buoy. gonna leave dock about 530ish. hopefully be out there dragging by 8. a 7 second period on a 4’ wave is not a wave… it is a swell. not a problem for running. just time it so that you launch off one swell not too far and settle into the next for a nice cushy ride for the passengers sleeping on the beanbags.

4ft at 7 sec in a 18ft boat is not my idea of fun. I am one to take risks to go get the fish, but no fish is worth your life. Save your gas for another day when the weather looks better.

They are right. Remember, it is just a prediction, not a guarantee. So, if the winds are 5 knots faster, or the waves 1 foot higher, it can be a real mess. When the forecast is on the edge like this, I need a good reason to even put the boat in and take a look, and I have a 22’ boat. With this forecast, I’d find something land based to do.
Waves coming over the bow, coolers floating in the back of the boat, shin deep water at the helm = not much fun! Right Lynn?
