Weather Help

Hopefully some of you have experience with this – obviously there are several sites out there that give forecasts for wind/seas, but I haven’t found anything good for weather.

I’m planning on going out tomorrow. The seas look decent, but I’m looking at the radar for this morning and there’s a big cell offshore. I don’t mind getting a little wet when I’m out fishing, but I want to stay safe. How would you guys go about deciding how to handle the weather?

Oh, also – the radar on my boat is inoperable (broken cable), so I won’t be able to use it tomorrow. I know that satellite weather is a good way to dodge storms, but that’s probably not something that I will have this season.

Thanks!

Bryson

replace that radar wire, then start considering fishing around the storms. With that being said radar will not make you bulletproof, we have had storms blow up and engulf us fast enough that radar would not have helped to dodge them. Be careful

10-4. I don’t expect to be able to fish around the storms, even once the radar is working. I’m trying to make the decision right now if I should call the trip or not. I’ve got a few guys coming down from Greenville, so I would hate to have to turn around on the way out or call it off tomorrow morning once they’ve already made the drive.

smart, always error on the safe side. I probably would get them to make a trip when scattered tstorms are not forecasted, but since I said that the weather will probably be great…

if you want a sort of glimpse into the future of the rain coverage you can check out

http://www.nssl.noaa.gov/wrf/CBRZ2/refl_loop.html

this is simulated and incorporates the latest data and radar trends but is only a good visual tool not to be used in making serious decisions. think coverage and type of precip over the next 6-10hrs…

Whats that saying about putting advanced technological tools into the hands of those not ready to handle it???

i cant help but feel it applies here. but hey everyones a meteorologist these days right so whatever have at it fella!!!

I turned around due to an issue with the boat. Took a look at the radar once I got back and was glad that I did.
