tried to outwit the weather man all week, decided on today, dam the torpedoes. realfish01 said sometimes you got to grab ther raincoat and go, if the fish are bitting the weather won’t matter, he hit it 2 weeks in a row when most sat on the hill! rolled ot at 4:30 on a confused sea but ran out at 26kts, once the sun started to rise we hit 29kts.
ran untill we hit 70deg in 280’ water. as we put the spread out the bar that connects the twin 300suks parted. decided to troll on one motor and worry about repairs latter. a sign of things to come, a good slinger attacked a dink on the outrigger picking off the salad and getting the hoo without the getting into the hook! the weeds were thick and scattered and we fought them all day. we boated 5 gaffers up to 25lbs and lost some good ones we saw that went up to 35lbs. we had to slow every few min to clear the downrigger and other lines and would get hits but did not have enouph forward speed to get good hooksets. the wayback stayed f—ed up all day. if we trolled outside the weeds we didn’t get any hits. all hits came on dinks to start and blue and white islanders, no bites after 10:30.
fished a great rip which you could see with a 2.5 temp break for 2 hrs and didn’t get a bite.Weather was AWESOME, waves at 4’ swell@10/12sec. layed down and rolled in @36kts! best weather day in a long time. pipe clamps and some kite string on the steering and we were headed in. some kinks to work out on Cap’t jimmy’s new to him 31 contender but agreat day with waterboy, mega-bite and johnny the plummer.
If it got any better I couldn’t stand it.
