Weather questions

I was wondering if you guys could offer some insight as to how different weather affects the inshore fishing. I am coming to fish this Friday and Sat. It looks like it will be clear cool and sunny. I of course know the challenges the wind presents but what about cloud cover temperature and so one. Does the fishing get better during certain weather? It also seems that in the fall/winter the trick is to scout for schools of reds, but what about trout, is it mostly find likely holding areas and blind cast?? I really don’t care if I catch reds versus trout, I just love catching different fish on the fly! Thanks

Look for drop offs, points, sharp oyster drops for the trout. You won’t see them.

Reds, pray for no wind, get as skinny as a runnway model and pole pole pole your boat. If there is much wind its gonna be tougher to find um. Look for pushes, anything different then the wind driven current.

Thanks, I know what the reds look like when they are pushing water, but I have only seen individual reds moving, not inschools. I would imagine it is pretty obvious when a big school is coming through? Do you look for gulls and birds hitting bait fish too? Or for bait jumping figuring something is chasing em? Thanks again for the help!

Moutain guy you can have a acre of fish in front of you and not see a wake until you cast and everything errupts.

hahah… just when you think you know something… you dont… but thats the beauty of fishing, there is always something to learn… My advice is look for anything out of the ordinary… I mean anything. A simple riple or odd swirl on the water could be 200 fish… If you look at enough “dead” water you will learn to pick out the subtle movements, but even then its not easy… Ive been doin this a while now and I still end up cussin’ myself for spooking fish when I didn’t even know they were there… just keep at it, and keep your eyes peeled… and remember, nothing is “Obvious” on the water…

I hear ya, I am coming down to fish Friday and Sat. I think you, Mad Mike, are the guy I always talk to at the Charl. Angler M.P., I live up in Western NC. I am gonna try to fish that creek you told me about near the Ben Sawyer, putin in at the yak landing.

Im horrible with names… I do faces well… I hope when you talk to me I actually help… If your talkin about the creek I think you are… I would look south on the W. side of the ICW… hint, hint… let me know how you do… oh and one more tip… move slow, in fact if you think your moving slow enough you should probably slow down!.. just keep your eyes peeled, it may not be what you think when you actually spot them.

I’m the same way man, I fish out of a kayak and you told me about conch creek on the MP side of the waterway. I caught my first fish on the fly in the salt this past weekend. I was stoked! Caught 17 all told. Thanks man, by the way are you going to the flyfishing expo in Charlotte 01/31/09?? Seeya
