WED 7/2

Well, We didn’t have the day that I was hoping for. It was my dad’s first offshore trolling trip. We had a great day though. We were in about 165’ and saw a sail jumping around 150 yards to the left of our bow. We headed that direction and when we got a little past that area we were hooked up. I gave the rod to another buddy of mine that has never caught one after many years of offshore fishing. It was caught on the same rod and reel that last week’s sail was caught on (7’ med/hvy power rod, 6/0 senator). My buddy had been making fun of my lighter setup since he uses broomsticks. After the sail was released, he admitted that the rod and reel performed just fine. Shortly after the sail we caught a BFT on a red and white mirrolure on another power rod with a smaller reel. I didn’t weigh it, but I would say it was as least 20 lbs. A little later we caught another BFT on a blue tuna bird. This one was a little smaller. We also caught what appeared to be a couple of good size skipjacks and a king. All in all it was a good day on a smooth ocean.

These are a couple of pics from my phone.

I guess my little boat has been lucky. That sail was the 3rd in 5 trips. I just wish we would have got on some mahi. Oh well, next time .
