After having some pretty lackluster evening trips after reading all the reports of people whackin’em, I finally got in them pretty good last evening.
Got on the water at about 7 and worked the same point until 10:30.
Wound up with 12 and about 50/50 on keepers. Kept 3 22-24".
No monstas, but lots of fun on light spinning tackle and finally almost no wind!
All were caught on flukes and rapalas in anywhere from 12-18 fow.
Nothing like artificials producing! Wanting to try some bucktail trailed with ice flies and u-rigs myself. What part of the lake were you fishing if you care to share?
That’s what I’m gathering. I was considering putting in at koons and starting around the points at Bear Creek. Pull artificials until I find a bite or find some good marks then drift some free lines since I don’t have a trolling motor. Just hoping to put the wife and little ones on a few fish. Thanks for help.
Yea I’ll be out tomorrow. Trolled out of koons and to the right today, across to islands and the hump with marker before bear with no luck. Got back to the dock and a nice young guy fishing the high school bass tournament told me they just smoked them and gave me a pretty specific location so I think I’m going to get some live bait and drift that area.
Right outside the cove at koons is good too. just troll in big circles. December-march is best. I live in Forest acres so thats a long drive for me. Over an hour.
Heading down tomorrow from New York with my 11 year old grandson and I like to fish around wessinger. I have read a lot about Koons can you tell what Koons is.
Koon’s Landing is a boat ramp on the Lexington side of the lake off of Shore Rd. Its on the peninsula that extends out into the main lake known as Shull Island. Its a little further up the lake from Wessinger but not too far. Which side of the lake will you be staying?

If you’ve had fun catching fish on the transom bait, you are welcome…
I’ve spent about 85% of my life’s wages on fishing, the rest I just wasted…

If your luck is as good with the fishing as it was timing your trip, you will wear them out!!
Up until this week, it seems like the wind been blowing non-stop all spring.
What are your plans as far as how you will fish? …and what part of NY?
We live in West Carthage which is about 80 miles north of Syracuse. We like the launch off of Holly Ferry Road and the launch off of Wessinger Road. Last fall our best fishing was the island heading into Rocky Creek, mouth of Saluada River and my favorite area is around Wessinger Island.
Im certainly no expert but caught shorts and one keeper in the cove to the left as you come out of the koon’s landing cove on Sunday afternoon if that helps any. Free lined hearing on boards and no weight on the line seemed to be favored.

I wouldn’t be running too far from that ramp, and I definitely would not be running up lake. Just my .02
