Wed Night Trolling Report

Met a friend at the ramp at 8:00 and we had lines in the water by 8:15. The lake was slick as could be and we started picked up fish fairly quick. About 9:30 or so the wind came up out of nowhere and made it hard to control the boat speed. We tried for a bit, but then decided to hang it up at about 9:45. Wound up with 5 that looked to all be legit keepers. All caught at 40-45’.

It doesn’t show up in the pic as well as I thought it would, but even though they are relatively shallow, they are still showing some signs of stress. Nothing like the “belly rash” kind of stuff you normally see this time of year, but some redness around the mouth and pectoral fins on some of them.

I pulled the boat out of the water after my friend Rob drove it up on the trailer, parked the boat and started laying down some rods and all before I got around to the back and saw water running out the drain. “Rob, you pulled the plug already?”…“I haven’t gotten out of the boat. How could I have pulled the plug?”

Whoops!

Amazingly it didn’t even let enough water in that we even noticed the plug was out. Turns out the deck in my boat is high enough above the water line that it must have only filled up the well and didn’t come up past the deck. Probably helped it was a very light load in the boat.

There was a bunch of sheriffs and DNR at the ramp when we got to the ramp about 10. Apparently there was some sort of collision between 2 boats and I thought someone mentioned one got capsized, but I really didn’t catch the whole story. In any case, it didn’t appear anyone got hurt.
