Wednesday 7/1 - harbour

On the water by 7:00, already breezy. First stop was just out of the Ashley river. I saw a couple pelicans diving and widely scattered flips. One throw of the castnet and got lucky with about 2 - 3 dozen 4-5 inch menhaden, a bit larger than what I was hoping to use for bait, but live bait caught quickly! I got to my “super secret” spot to fish the top end and beginning of out going high tide.

I caught 3 real nice trout, 17 - 19" in the first hour, then 4 more between 20 - 25" in the next hour. so I guess the menhaden weren’t too big. I kept the first 3, and released the other 4. I had one other bite that I 'm almost sure was a shark, I never saw it and it never stopped. It almost had me spooled before the hook pulled free and line went slack.

By then the bite was off and I was ready to move to another spot to fish the second half of the tide and made a monumental bonehead mistake. I stopped to try to catch some mud minnows, got out of the boat on the sand by Ft. Johnson and 10-15 mins later I was unable to get the boat off the beach with 3 hours to go before low tide. So I spent the rest of the day rationing my meager supply of budlights and waiting on the tide to come back in.

I had hoped to be home by noon or 1p, finally got off the sand bar and back to the boat ramp at 5:30.

But It was still a nice day!!!

This is a story we can all relate to. I love the part about rationing the Bud Lites. Perfect!!!

Also the part about “big bait =big fish”.

“The big one’s still swimming, let’s go.”

You weren’t the only one.

I saw 2 idiots fail to stay in the ICW channel in front of my dock and run full throttle into the mud. Took one 20 minutes to get out at dead low and the other about 5 minutes on the incoming.

At least you caught fish.

First, Most, Biggest
I want to catch them all

Hmmmm…“I swear, honey, I was hung up on sandbar, had to wait for the tide, that’s why I was 4 hours late.” Should work, at least once!
