Wednesday 7/17

Gonna try and give the dolphin another go on Wednesday. Had a hard time on the troll with the ballyhoo last week.

Any suggestions from the veterans with respect to the time of year and the overall suck of the bite lately would be greatly appreciated.

Lord knows I would do the same if asked.

Thanks.

I’m no veteran, but I would stay in 150-250ft. Maybe even put lines in at 120’. You could push out further and chase the temp break, but that that hasn’t been very successful lately. Just my .02.

10-4. That’s the plan. We’re gonna give it a little longer Wednesday as well. Had to get back to the hill early last week.

We’re going as we’ll. I think we’re gonna troll for 3 hours then hit bottom. I’ll be on 68 and 72. Why Knot. If your interested we can work an area. I will most likely fish shallow starting at 120 out to a max of 250 I’m thinking.

Same as you all… I’m bringing the planner, and small ballyhoo to minimize short strikes…
Still looking for a crew…

Sounds good. Reef cast looks like maybe Thursday is the better day but I cant get off that day so I am sticking with it. Hopefully the wind will lay down Tuesday night.

Also thinking of going out…Will keep an ear on the radio. “Mighty Fine” will try to find the troll bite.

We’ll be heading out as well from City Marina early Wednesday. What time are ya’ll launching?

As warm as the water temps are out there I would give 85-120ft a try while trolling a bit slower(around 5mph). I know it sounds shallow but i have had some success that shallow in the past when the temps are 80 and above. Went out thursday last week and caught nothing further than 150ft. Did better in close. Wish I would have stayed closer the whole time. Had a blue around 850ft but if you are going for dolphin I would suggest closer than you would think. try it for an hour and if nothing then head out further. Good idea on the small ballyhoo, had multiple short strikes as well. Maybe even a trailer hook??? Let us know how it goes. Good luck!!

We got a 90 lb wahoo in 75 feet this time last year.

^This. Don’t run over fish just to go deeper unless your target is bottom fish in deeper water. 80-120’ looking for weedlines and over structure will produce this time of year.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Anyone have a spot available? I have my own gear and wont need babysittin. Glad to share in costs! PM me if you do plz

Ooops…check that. “Mighty Fine” (My brother’s rig) can’t go out Wednesday. I’ll second sniper7’s post…If anyone needs a paying deckhand (I can rig/spread/castnet)…PM me…thanks…if not…catch 'em up anyway.

Normally I have a spot and would love to take you guys but I’m full. Looks like jetsetter above is looking for a crew. Try him and see. Wednesday looks like a real nice day weather wise.

I may have a spot… Let ya’ll know tomorrow

Mahi are probably just about gone now from this area, probaly a few left around, they are headed further up the coast.

I would look for a king wahoo and bring some bottom gear.

That’s what I wanted to hear. Gonna resist the urge to go deeper and start in 90 ft. and see what happens for a spell. Will have lines in earlier as well which shouldn’t hurt. Trolling slower? why not. Whatever I was doing last week wasn’t happening.

Sails will be in that shallower water also.

Sails will be in that shallower water also.

I’m planning on going out for a little shake down of the new boat as well – I’m staying shallower (probably no more than 20nm off) but will be mainly bottom fishing and trolling just a little bit, mostly to see how my baits are running.

I’m heading out a little later in the morning, but will probably still be tuned into the radio though. bwilliams – I’ll keep the radio tuned to 68 for ya; I would love to hear how you guys are doing out there! Give me some motivation to get my boat to the point that I feel comfortable heading out a little farther!
