Patti hadn’t been out since before Christmas and was anxious to go. With the wind and weather (which was a big improvement over Saturday, but that’s not saying much) we headed to fish the back of Beard’s Creek. Didn’t find any concentrations of fish like I expected, but came across a few groups. Water condition was better than out west near Acapulco, and a few times was at 54.5 degrees. Bite was a little slow but we managed 4 fish which included a fat 25 incher and two shorts. Missed a few other strikes. Also caught a 4 pound black bass for good measure. It was alright for a leisure trip. Maybe next time will be better, and Spring is coming.
(After Charles called, figured I’d better edit this post. I wish it was a fat 35 incher.)
Mike, I wish I knew you were out fishing today. I went out with my dad who wanted to fish since before Christmas. Breezy at times but a nice day overall. We had a late start, around 9:30am and fished till 1 pm. First stop the very back of Buffalo creek, temps up to 51F in some areas, marked plenty of bait and some fish and watched a lot of birds around all the time, but no bites for us!
Moved to our exact second spot on Saturday and found them on 20 fow!!
Most of them caught on planer boards and some on freelines. Had DR in front of their noses all the time but no bites !!!
Ended with eight really fat stripers, 24-26 in, 6-8 lb average, only two small ones, all released. The water is very stained around buffalo and gets a bit better as you get closer to BDI. A lot of fun especially a a great time with my dad reeling them in and enjoying it!!

Sounds like a great time with your Dad. Isn’t that what fishing is really all about? Charles is really gearing up also. He’s having several sets of planer boards made and making decisions on rigging up his boat so he can take his grand kids and family out. Just a little less wind will be helpful.
