Wednesday Shem Creek trip

I will be heading out to fish shem creek this wednesday, most likely with pinkfisher. If anyone wants to attend feel free to meet us there. Haven’t decided on an exact time right now, but it should be around 8 to 9am until 3 or 4pm.

Yep. I will definitely be there.

al8995 was pulling small fish out of the water like crazy and letting the big fish eat through his leader. I on the other hand caught one fish! 14" flounder. He was delicious! I made some baked sweet potato fries and brocolli to compliment his flavor.

Flounder. I placed the cleaned and filleted flounder pieces in a baking dish and drizzled a few tablespoons of olive oil over them. Just enough to lightly coat the fish and ensure that they did not stick to the pan. I minced a large clove of garlic and sprinkled the pieces over the fillets. I placed them in the oven with the sweet potato fries with 10 minutes left so they would be done at the same time. The oven was at 475, but that temp can be lower and the cooking time a little longer. (I wish I had double ovens so I could cook different things at the same time using different temps.) After the flounder was plated I squeezed 2 fresh lemon slices to add a little more flavor.

Sounds like a good day. Glad yall found some fish

Thanks, Hurricane!

I’m still curious as to what I hooked and how did it chew through 25lb fluorocarbon! I’m glad you got your first flounder and it sounds like you found a good recipe! It was a fun trip regardless of the 8 little fish I caught lol. At least I was able to test the trout tricks and gulp mullet, which worked better than I anticipated.

Little fish consisted of: 2 small reds smaller than 13 inches. 2 small trout smaller than 14 inches. 2 small blue fish that were about 8 inches, and I thought it was odd catching them there. 2 Small croakers about 9 inches.

al8995, substitute under size flounder for the croakers and that sounds like one of my typical days at Shem creek. I was also surprised to see the bluefish.
Maybe it’s because I primarily use artificials?

Thats the first time I’ve fished the creek and not caught a flounder! They were hitting nonstop but they just wouldn’t take the bait for some reason. The infamous tap tap was starting to drive me crazy lol. I usually do pretty well out there. I’ve never seen bluefish out there so that was odd.
