Hey all, I don’t usually write about my experiences, but I am led to tell you guys this for one reason or another. Yesterday, I took one of my best friends, his son and my son out for a little fish. My friend has just had his thyroid removed due to cancer, and is about to start iodine radiation therapy. His energy levels are iffy at best, but he wanted to get out there for a bit with the boys. He and I are very similar in our love for the water, and teaching that to our sons is a very important thing to us. What he is going through hits close to home because my wife went through almost the same issue just over a year ago, so I know what he is dealing with. What better to take your mind off your troubles than to go fishing!!! We started inside by trying for reds on floats. No luck. Next we trolled the rocks for flatties. No luck, so I told him I knew how to make them boys happy. We put out 2 clark spoons on top, and it was on. The boys stayed busy reeling in spanish for the next couple of hours. They had a blast. To see 3 and 4 year old boys battle spanish will make anyone smile. The major thing is it gave my buddy’s mind a little rest from thinking what cancer makes you think. If you have a friend in a similar situation, do things with him. Good friends are rare, folks. Take the time out of your busy life to let them know you appreciate them, and do what you can to help them. You never know when you may be faced with something that will consume every thought and every minute of your life. I am truly thankful for my close friends, and I hope they feel the same about me. I hope this helps someone else out there. God bless.
We often think we have it tough until we look around and find someone going through something a whole lot worse than what we are. My family is blessed and I thank the good Lord for it every day.
Its awesome to have friends you can count on when you need them most and enjoy trips such as this one. Great Job:smiley:
I thought this could be you when i read it the first time. That is awsome that you did that man. I know them boys had to have a blast. I know it had to be good for him to get out and get his mind off things.
Man, it was so much fun. Brice was kinda hesitant until he saw Jonah given them spanish the devil. Jonah loves to go out on the boat. He is a redfish magnet. Seems like everytime he’s in the boat, with the exception of Wedensday, we find a few reds. Holla sometime and we will hit em. I got a few new spots for low tide now at Little River.
Nice post goozeman! I believe that is one of the real joys in having a boat, being able take others out who normally wouldn’t have that opportunity and for those who need an escape from whatever! You’ll be rewarded for that, I do believe.
