Weekend fishing pond trip

Hello all,
Finally have pics of my slayer rigged. My friend received his ocean kayak trident and we were just trying to get our “yak” legs at his neighborhood pond.
Current Native Slayer rigging:
I’m running 2x rocket tubes, 1x ram junior, 1 small first aid kit, 1 emergency paddle, tackle bag, astral Ronny Fisher pfd, 230 Werner tybee paddle, yeti 45, orange fish grips, Calcutta fish pliers. My reels for today were Penn conflict 4000 with 15 lb braid on a 7 ft st croix tide master moderate action medium power. My other combo is a Penn battle 2000 with 6 lb mono and a st croix 6 ft triumph medium light fast action, med/light power. Anchor trolley

Some lessons learned from my end.
It’s hard to keep the paddle stable in the yak when I’m standing up and sitting down. Paddle holders will be my next purchase.

I need to figure out how to better organize my fishing area. Fish grips, fishing nets, etc all over the place. Native seat organizer is my next purchase.

I will prolly leave the tackle bag at home next time and only take the tackle containers I need.

I feel like I need to carry one more rod so I can have my light rod, soft plastic, and aspinner/live bait rod. It seems like it’s really hard to re-rig on the yak. I’m trying to figure out how to get one more rod in the back. I’m thinking yeti cooler rod holder since the cooler is already back there.

The Native slayer wheel is great if your moving just your kayak and seat. I want to get an actual cart so I can move more with less trips and add stability. Any kayak cart recommendations?

Other items I want to purchase:
Flare gun, bow cover, native seat organizer, air horn. That’s what I feel I need for now. Anything else to consider?

I don’t want to add extra stuff to my yak. It’s heavy enough as it is and I hate buying stuff just to buy it. I’m trying to purchase stuff I will actually need, save time by fishing, and reducing workload with portaging to and from fishing locations.

Nice rig - congrats! Welcome to the addiction

As you get more seat time, you’ll figure out what you absolutely need to bring on the water. I think most folks take everything at first - all their tackle, a bunch of rods, etc. I’ve whittled down my gear over the years to the point where it is just a couple small trays, a crate with the grips and tools, and a couple rods.

Does your PFD have a whistle? That is all you really need, as far as noise-making device. You could forgo the flare gun and horn if you are sticking to small water.

Enjoy your new yak!

Thanks! And yes I got a whistle on the pfd. I plan on using the yak on small ponds, inshore flats, and lakes. I may forego the flare gun, thinking back I think that may be overkill. I definitely plan on ditching the tackle bag because i do not use all my tackle one outing. I know I only need a few tackle trays. I’d rather carry an extra rod and have it ready to fish than carry my extra tackle that takes up space. I love the yak and I was thinking about a rudder but for the slayer it’s $299.99! Ii’m definitely getting addicted to kayak fishing, it’s a cheap way to get off the shore and i like the challenge of course.
