Hey Kerry. I am actually down here fishing on my boat. I put in folly yesterday and got spooled out a couple times yesterday. Thankfully i brought some extra fishing line. I normally put in folly when i come down. Thinking abt going to jettys Saturday morning if the weather hold up. Today i am going back to folly again.
Appreciate it Gail. Naw i haven’t talked to anyone but i did have a few people on the post give me some info for two people i will be contacting. As far as the fish, I got spooled like two or three times yesterday. Luckily i brought more line with me. Had to be sharks or dolphin hit my line. I do know my last one i had was a 3 or 4 ft shark cause i had him up to the boat before it tailed me and reeled me. I see the sharks are active right now. I caught some whiting and used the heads for bait and baam, fish on. Will try sheepheads today. I had no luck with the redfish and flounder yesterday. They definitely didn’t wanna play with Torrey. Caught some night whiting though…
We’ve been having some luck with the flounder on live finger mullet recently. Just a jig head with the finger mullet hooked through the nose. Or a jig head, with a jerk shad soft plastic on it, then a nose-hooked live finger mullet to top it off fished real slow dragging the bottom in creek mouths and around oysters. The water is so hot right now the oxygen levels get pretty low way back up in the creeks and marshes. See if you can find you some docks and creek mouths to fish that are out on the main rivers, closer to the inlets the better, on an incoming tide where the cleaner, cooler, higher oxygenated water is coming in from offshore.
We chartered a boat a few weeks ago and fished the sunken jetties ( I think that’s what they’re called ) between Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie.
Anyway, we caught five Bull reds on cut up menhaden laying next to the jetties.
Here is the video. You can pretty much tell where we are in relationship to Fort Sumter - knowing we are bookended by both Forts. Go to the 7:15 mark and you will see Fort Sumter in the foreground. (I just realized I call Fort Sumter Fort Moultrie in the video. Guess I should re edit that)
There will be a bunch of boats in a line catching redfish, or at least fishing for them.
