It was a fairly nice weekend on the water. Took the boat out Saturday in search of sheephead but only managed 2 small ones, plus the other assortment of oyster toads and trash fish. I figured that I was in a good area, but guess not.
Sunday morning I wanted to try to actually fish off the kayak that the girlfriend got me for Christmas. Managed one largemouth in a pond in West Ashley. Decent bass on the beetle spin.
Sunday afternoon the girlfriend wanted to try her hand at wade fishing at the flounder spot. Right when we got there I picked up a nice red right off the rip. He took the lure about five feet from me and then ran the drag a few times before I got him in. I didn’t get a weight or length (don’t generally keep reds) but he was close to being over the slot. Girlfriend had a back to back trout/flounder. Literally the next cast. Her first flounder. Both keeper size, both swam free. I also caught a sea robin, my first. Weird looking fish. All caught on weedless rigged Gulp jerk shad, no weight.
I grew up in Charleston, but weekends like this make me realize how much I love it here.
