I will be visiting my wife’s family in Sarasota this weekend and was hoping someone had some pointers. I was planning on fishing the Gandy Bridge like I did the last time. I saw some folks catch some nice groupers on pinfish. Anyone have any ideas of other spots? I will try to sneak out every morning before everyone wakes up!
I heard that the Mons Venus was really nice.

It’s all good! I fished the skyway fishing pier Saturday and Sunday morning. Got out there around 4:30 am both mornings. Saw some big sharks, lots of rays cruising by as well as some honcho tarpon cruising. At daybreak the bait went crazy on the surface with lots of predatory activity from below. Caught a nice bluefish, trout and really nice Spanish Mackeral. Unfortunately, it wasn’t just a fishing trip and we had to get back to the wives just when the fishing got really good. Can’t wait to get back down there when I have more time to fish.

That is definitely a nice area to vacation in, we spent spring break down there this year. Glad you had a good time.
Years ago , I fished Courtney- Campbell causeway.I could pull off the road and go under the bridges and fish from shore. Big black drum and trout were caught there. Not sure what is there this time of year but should catch the same things that you can at Gandy.Tarpon were also there and ladyfish.Prolly a little cold to wade fish now.
