Heading to the Outer Banks this fall for some surf fishing. With all of the nasty weather I decided on making a front rod holder for the truck. Still have access to the winch.

Has anyone used the Shimano Torium or Trinidad reels for casting??? How do they do???
Why not just put the rods in the back? I’ve never understood the purpose of having the rodholders in front. Usually if I run into something the front of the truck is the first part to do the running into.
Every piece of tail you turn down is a piece of tail you didn’t get.

Do the rear tires touch the ground?
Only joking buddy! Great looking Rig!!
Looks like amateur welds to me doc.
Hopefully someone smart enough to build a contraption of this caliber would not transport his rods on his front bumper.

Rod holders are up front for AFTER you get to the surf so you still have full access to the back of the truck (Ice chests, camping gear, ect)w/o moving rods around. Looks good.
Looks great, you’ll fit right in up there. Will you be going to Hatteras or the Beach at Oregon Inlet? I’m going to try to get the boat up there for the stripers if the water cools down enough.

Going to Hatteras. Haven’t been there since high school >15 yrs ago. Will probably also charter an offshore trip while there.
I’ve never been up there to fish, but I understand many people fish from the beach in some CRAZY rigs.
What kinda fish do people fish for? Is it good fishing?
Enlighten me, please!!!
EDIT – Forgot to add that it looks pretty awesome! Good job!

Not a bad idea. Wouldn’t they all be a bit cramped once you set them up though? Whenever I fish the surf or see others do it, the rods are usually setup a good little bit away from each other to keep from tangling lines. looks like a pretty sturdy rig.

Rap, You need to go fish the point in November when the drum are running and all of this will make perfect sense. There’s some serious ingenuity in beach fishing rigs.

I’d add a few more rod holders if I were you.

Thanks for the info neighbor Dern. That’s an impressive resume. I’ll recommend it to our crew.
